Ben Weinberg

Ben is the founder of English from A to Z. He has been an ESL teacher and instructor for the past five years. Ben earned his TEFL / TESOL certification from the International TEFL Academy back in December of 2013.

He has a wide variety of experiences in teaching English as a second language to students from around the world. Ben has taught English for companies and organizations such as Berlitz Inc. and the Huntington Learning Center.

In addition, Ben spent a year living in Istanbul, Turkey where he taught English to high school students and also gave private tutoring to Turkish adults. 

Continuing his time overseas, Ben lived in Medellin, Colombia and volunteered at a public high school helping Colombian students to improve their English proficiency as part of the Ministry of Education's 'Bilingual Colombia' national initiative. He worked for a non-governmental organization based out of Bogota, Colombia.

Ed

Hi there everyone!  My name is Teacher Ed, I am a London born and bred ESL Teacher with 3 years of experience ranging from General to Academic to Business English. 

I got into the ESL industry for two main reasons. The first being my love for the English language and its occasionally maddening vocabulary! The second being my love to travel and to be immersed in and learn about other cultures!  

My main background is in the performing arts, my university degree is from Falmouth University in Cornwall (The south of England) focused on BA Popular music, where I focused on lyricism and songwriting.

My hobbies and interests include but aren't limited to: music, travel, film, and the occasional computer game, and dogs.

Amy

Hello! My name is Amy and I am a native English Speaker from the United States.

I have officially been teaching English as a Second Language since 2017, both online and in person, but I have been “unofficially” teaching English to speakers of other languages during the years I studied at the University I attended. I’ve taught on many different online platforms, so I would say that I have easily taught well over 10,000 classes!

I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, with a minor in Psychology, as well as a certification in Legal Assistant Studies. Later, I decided to pursue my love of teaching and I earned the 120 hour advanced TEFL Certification.

My experience ranges from my prior career in Human Resource Management, to my second, and current career as an ESL teacher, which encompasses public school substitute teacher, private language school ESL teacher for adults and online private and group ESL teacher.

I’ve taught both children and adults, private and group lessons, on site and online. I believe learning should be fun and should include a lot of laughter. TPR, facial expressions, body language, a lot of conversation and pronunciation practice, as well as reading, props and word games, are all used to aid in learning.

I can tell when a student isn't feeling comfortable, and I will work hard to change that, because I don't think learning truly begins until people feel relaxed and know that they aren't being judged. Mistakes are OK! Actually, they are part of the learning process! I look forward to seeing you in my virtual classroom soon!

“Hello! My name is Kim. With nearly twenty years of experience in education, I am deeply committed to empowering English language learners. Since 2007, I have worked as a public high school ESL teacher and currently serve as the department lead. In this role, I design curriculum, lead professional development, and advocate for emergent bilinguals. I have taught English learners at all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced.

I earned my 160-hour TESOL certification through the linguistics department at the University of North Texas, where I designed and taught lessons for adult learners and collaborated closely with faculty. This experience solidified my commitment to supporting English learners at every stage of their language journey.

In 2021, I was awarded a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on language and literacy studies and have published educational research on adolescent emergent bilinguals. I also have four years of experience as a university adjunct instructor, teaching courses on diversity, literacy, and pedagogy. 

I’m passionate about helping you reach your language goals and look forward to seeing you in my virtual classroom!”

Nick

Hello, I’m Nick. I am an extremely passionate, qualified, South African born teacher. I completed my Bachelor of Education Degree in 2016, I then travelled around South East Asia teaching English, Maths and Science, first living in and around Bangkok and then Siem Reap Cambodia. I currently live and teach online in South Africa.

My lessons are fun and engaging, allowing for students to grow their English ability. My teaching style allows the teacher to facilitate learner’s exploration of English, as well as any other area of education.

I believe that it is so important for me as the teacher to get to know my students as best as possible. The more I know about their likes, dislikes, hobbies and even friends, the better I will be able to relate what is being learnt to the student. This motivation to learn is crucial.

“Hi everyone, My name is Gary. With over seven years of experience teaching ESL both in-class and online, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my students. I hold a degree in Business Management and have completed a 120-hour TEFL certification, alongside a 60-hour Business English certification. Additionally, I have completed Cambridge University's courses on "How to Teach IELTS" and "How to Teach Cambridge English Preliminary (PET)."

I am also a certified PC Technician and a qualified network engineer. My teaching experience spans all age groups, from 4 years old to 65 years old, allowing me to adapt my methods to suit diverse learning needs. As a published author and a seasoned traveler with over 20 years of global exploration, I have been exposed to a myriad of cultures, enriching my teaching approach. I am proud to have excellent references from some of the top educational institutions in Asia, underscoring my commitment to quality education and cultural sensitivity.”

“Hello, my name is James and I am a Native English speaker with dual citizenship – British and New Zealander. I have been Teaching and Training, yes, they are different, for over thirty - five years. I have taught at international companies in South East Asia and leading Universities in the UK and Australia.

 I have worked with the British Council as both an English language teacher and an IELTS Examiner, supporting candidates in achieving their goals for migration, employment, and postgraduate study. I hold a Master’s degree in Management, complemented by a range of qualifications in teaching and training. 

My classes are skills-based rather than content-heavy, as I believe it’s essential not only to learn a language but also to know how to use it effectively.

As a fluent speaker of two foreign languages, I understand first-hand the challenges language learners face and how to overcome them. This experience allows me to relate closely to my students and tailor lessons to suit their needs.”
